When to reboot a server

The server is unresponsive to any remote commands and users cannot access a login page.

It is possible that the server has reached its allocated memory or CPU limit assigned in the virtual environment.

Only the provider who has access to the virtual machine console (e.g., Vmware) could reboot the server in this instance.

Additional Information

Capturing log files for further diagnosis following the incident may help to ascertain the cause of the issue.

Infrastructure operations should monitor cpu and memory usage of all virtual machines in their virtualisation layer.
